GROW: Navigating Ontario’s Social Assistance Programs: ODSP and Ontario Works

The caseworkers from Community Legal Services of Ottawa (CLSO) presenting this webinar specialize in income maintenance law. They regularly represent clients before the Social Benefits Tribunal and provide housing law support through Tenant Duty Counsel Services at the Landlord and Tenant Board. Drawing from their hands-on experience, they will give an overview into navigating the social assistance system, offering insights with a particular focus on preventing issues such as denials or the loss of benefits, as well as the supports available to individuals facing these challenges.

Angela Mooney

Angela Mooney practices housing and income maintenance law at Community Legal Services of Ottawa. Her previous social justice and community organizing work informs her current legal practice. She enjoys assisting and advising clients on their rights and how to address the legal issues they face. She regularly appears before the Social Benefits Tribunal and provides Tenant Duty Counsel Services at the Landlord Tenant Board. When not working with and for her clients, she enjoys getting outside.

Racquel Scott-Tolson

Racquel Scott-Tolson is a practicing paralegal who is currently working as a caseworker at Community Legal Services of Ottawa. Racquel’s areas of practice focus mainly on appeals to the Social Benefits Tribunal. She also practices in the areas of tenant rights and eviction prevention matters before the Landlord and Tenant Board. She also frequently attends the Landlord and Tenant Board as tenant duty counsel.

Lili-Anne Kondo

Lili-Anne Kondo is a Community Developer at a Community Legal Services of Ottawa, where she has been working for a few months. Lili-Anne has dedicated much of her career to supporting newcomers and refugees, as well as working within shelter and independent living organizations. In her current role, she works with caseworkers on initiatives related to community development, advocacy, and law reform. Lili-Anne seeks to meet with local communities and the organizations that serve them to ensure the clinic stays informed of their needs and can effectively respond. Outside of work, she enjoys crafting and imaginative play with her 5-year-old.
