GROW: Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities – Perspectives from the Bench and Adjudicators

27 Nov, 2024

Persons with disabilities face unique challenges navigating the justice system. These challenges can pose difficulties for legal representatives advocating on behalf of persons with disabilities and are especially difficult for persons with disabilities who are self-represented.

Whether you are representing a person with a disability, or you are a self-presented person with a disability, Reach Legal Services invites you to join us for a virtual panel discussion featuring judges and adjudicators who regularly decide cases in the courts and tribunals.

Date: November 27, 2024 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. EDT via Zoom

Our esteemed panellists are:

  • Jennifer Khurana (Chairperson, Canadian Human Rights Tribunal)
  • Margo den Haan (Landlord Tenant Board / Ontario Review Board Member), and
  • The Honourable Justice David Berg (Ontario Court of Justice)

Our panelists will share their perspectives on:

  • What judges and adjudicators look for in effective submissions;
  • How judges and adjudicators address self-represented persons with disabilities;
  • How self-represented persons with disabilities can advocate for themselves; and
  • What courts and tribunals can do to accommodate persons with disabilities.

This free seminar is expected to be accredited by the Law Society of Ontario for 1.0 hour of professional content. This seminar is made possible with the generous support of the Ottawa Community Foundation.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM EST.  There is no fee to register. Only registrants will have access to the webinar link which will be provided by email.
